August Meeting
Brothers there was a lot of sadness at our August meeting after Brother Ora got his 50 year certificate at the July meeting Brother Ora Passed away on August 3, 2005. Our meeting was the next night. Several of the Brothers talked about this fine Brother and his accomplishments as a Mason and a Brother. I was able to attend Grand Lodge with Brother Ora and served as one of his officers when he was Master at the age of 77. He was the oldest setting Master that year in NC but that did not slow him down in any way. He was proficient in all that he did. During his year there were several improvements made to the Lodge and he was always there making us younger men try a little harder. Brother Ora retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant having served in World War 11 and the Korean War. Worshipful Brother Orey Edward Burnette was a card carrying member of the GREATEST GENERATION
Scholarship
Brothers we will be presenting a scholarship this fall thanks to a very generous donation from a Brother. The recipient of our first scholarship will be Miranda Lanning to help her complete her education at Haywood Community College. Miranda is from the Bethel area and graduated from Central Haywood High. We hope that this will help on a productive life.
Calvin E. Taylor toy ride
Brothers the toy ride will be September 10th at the Stompin Ground Maggie Valley. If you can help we will need it. We need some to come about 1 or 2 o’clock to help clean up. After you have been there for several hours you start to wind down and some new fresh help would be great. You can call Gene at 648-2135 or 734-3439 or call me at 648-8081 or 400-0256. We still need toys we are way down from the donations at the Lodges this year. Brothers if we are going to do this ride to help the children in this area as well as the OUR children at the Masonic home for Children at Oxford 8 or 10 of us can not do it all. WE NEED YOUR HELP If you can donate a toy call one of us OR better yet bring it Sonoma Lodge September 1st you need to be there to help with the meeting it is not the same without you. If you do not like to drive at night call one of your Officers we will get you a ride to the Lodge and back home. Brothers never think of this as a hardship or a chore. In our obligations this is what we said we would do and if you do not call you are depriving us of the opportunity to live up to our obligations
Newsletter Brothers if you said that you would sponsor the newsletter we need your help. We only have two more months that we have collected for. So please if you said that you would help send your check for $37 to the secretary. The month of December is all that is left for 2005 and if you would like to sponsor a particular month for 2006 send it in now and get it reserved. If you would like to get the newsletter by e-mail let me know your e-mail address and I will send it to you. I can send it as an attachment or as an e-mail so anyone can get it by e-mail even if your computer will not let you get attachments. Let me know at mkahooper@cbvnol.com and I will start. Thanks to Brother Steiner Humerick for his donation.
School of Instruction There will be a school of instruction at Sonoma Lodge on Saturday October 1st. If you are an Officer for Sonoma or any Lodge in the 40th District you need to attend. If you are not an Officer you also need to attend everyone needs to be there and be part of this. Sonoma Chapter #254 will be serving lunch so that in it’s self will make it worth it.
