                                      The Masonic Messenger

Seneca Masonic Lodge No. 185, AFM

Volume XXV, No. 1     Circulation: 341     E-Circ: 102      Membership: 387     Secretary: Sam McCall

January 2008

At the January meeting:

       • The Lodge voted to add $300 to the $700 generated for Hospice by sale of the District 15 directory.

• W. Bro. Donny Arnold announced that two coolers were missing from downstairs, and requested

          that they be returned.

2007 Annual Report Highlights:
39 degrees were conferred, resulting in 15 new Master Masons raised.  There were no affiliations or reinstatements.  11 died, 2 demitted, and 2 were erased for Non-Payment of Dues.  In spite of the outstanding performance of last year's officers, total membership remained steady from the previous year: 387.  The Lodge has 85 Forty-Year Members (including the new ones for 2007) and 35 Past Masters.  We have 10 Perpetual Life Members, and 4 additional Honorary/Memorial Perpetual Life Memberships have been purchased from Grand Lodge.  Dues to Grand Lodge were $5,586 and, including the $224 in supplies and bonds from Grand Lodge, we owed Grand Lodge a total of $5,810.  An explanation of "bonds": Grand Lodge automatically provides bonding of our Secretary and Treasurer, and we must reimburse them for it.

Membership news:

       • We are investigating the petition for affiliation of Jeremy David Talley, of Keowee Lodge #79

           in Pickens.

       • Congratulations to our four new Master Masons raised in December: Benjamin Claude
Cannon, Micah Heath Hart, Dustin Chad Martin, and Mark Steven Miller

       • We are thankful for the new Master Masons raised earlier in 2007 as well: Kevin W.
Bray, Robert Richy Brock Jr, Mackey Lee Cobb Jr, Thomas Paul Guilliams, Bryan Michael
Graham, Eric Dwight James, John Paul Johnson, Roger Caness Martin Jr, Larry Douglas
Orr, Michael Thomas Sluder, Kevin Dale Spencer.  Several of these names also appear
on the new 2008 Officers list, and this brings a lot of enthusiasm into the Lodge.

Masonic Events:

       • Thursday, January 10 @ 6:30 pm:  District 15 Instructional Meeting at Seneca #185, hosted by
Fair Play #132.  Eat at 6:30.  All officers are expected to attend.

       • Saturday, January 19 @ 7:00 AM:  Seneca #185 Fellow Craft degree.  Breakfast at 7:00 AM,

work at 8:00 AM.  Candidates: Rick Hunter Kelley, David

Earl Melton, Mark Allen Merck, and Cecil Joshua Stewart.

                                                    Widow: Mrs. Ann R. Hamilton

       • Donna Holden                      died December 8, 2007.  She was the daughter of W. Bro. Bud
Broome and sister of Brothers James and David Broome.
