December 25, 2005                             MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR

LIGHT FROM THE EAST: This year is rapidly coming to an end. It has, to say the least, been a very eventful year, for the world in general, and for us as individuals.

We have seen death around the world and in this country on catastrophic scales, which none of us ever thought we would see in our lifetimes, and we have been touched by loss at a very personal level. We have seen our lives go in directions we never imagined, and experienced such extreme emotions that it has been for many of us, new and unfamiliar territory.

In times such as these, we should truly realize and appreciate what it means to us to be privileged to belong to this great, enduring fraternity. No matter what happens in each of our lives, no matter what circumstances occur, no matter what losses we experience or hardships we endure, we never have to face them alone. We are bound together. We have chosen to share and bear together each other’s needs. If one of us has a battle, we all fight the battle, together.

None of us had the choice of what family we were born into, who our parents were, who our brothers and sisters were, or where we were born, but each of us, willingly, of our own free will and accord, chose to be Masons and to belong to this fraternal family. We willing assume a responsibility for every other member of this family, and count it a great privilege and honor to do so. Consequently, whenever a member experiences joy or has happy occasions, when a brother grows and prospers, when our family grows and is blessed, we share those things as well.

Brethren, in these trying times we find ourselves living in, let us do what Masons have done for countless generations, and care for and provide for the needs of this precious “family” we have “chosen” to be a part of.

If one has a burden, we will all willingly bear it. If one has a blessing, we will all gladly share it.

“May the blessings of heaven be upon us and all regular Masons, may brotherly love prevail, and every moral and social virtue cement us”

                                                                                                           So mote it be
